Diagnostic Test

Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) Test for families from Adoni

Measures how well electrical signals travel through your child's nerves.

Why it is done

A Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) sends small electrical pulses through the skin and measures how nerves respond. It helps diagnose neuropathies, GBS, hereditary neuromuscular diseases, and nerve injuries - and is often paired with EMG.

(Preparation)

How to prepare your child

Ensure the hair is washed clean with soap; do not apply oil or gels.
Do not withhold regular prescribed medicines unless specifically instructed.
Ensure proper sleep if it's a sleep-deprived EEG protocol.
Dress the child in comfortable, loose clothing.
Experience
Will it hurt? No, tests like EEG are completely non-invasive and painless. NCS/EMG involve minor skin sensations but are safe.
Can parents stay?Yes, one parent is always allowed inside the diagnostic room to comfort and soothe the child.
Does it need sedation?Sedation is used only when a child is highly uncooperative or during extended sleep recordings, under doctor guidance.

How results are used

Diagnostic results are interpreted in correlation with clinical history, developmental timeline, and symptoms. A diagnostic report by itself does not confirm a complete care plan.

Why specialist interpretation matters

Interpretation by a DM-trained Pediatric Neurologist ensures subtle anomalies are identified accurately, preventing misdiagnosis of non-epileptic mimics.

Where is the test available?

The equipment is located in our Kurnool clinic. We coordinate schedules for families from Adoni to complete tests and receive reports on the same day.

Test FAQs

Q. What is the cost of an NCS test, and is it painful?

NCS pricing is competitive and depends on the number of limbs/nerves evaluated. The test causes a mild tingling or buzzing sensation, which is entirely safe and well-tolerated by children.
