Video EEG (VEEG)
Simultaneous brain-wave recording and synchronized video to confirm seizure type.

“A Video EEG (VEEG) records your childs brain electrical activity together with a synchronized video. This lets us correlate suspected events with the EEG pattern - the most reliable way to diagnose epilepsy, classify the seizure type, and tell seizures apart from non-epileptic events.”
Small sensors are placed on the scalp with a gel; a camera records video for the duration of the test.
Answers to key parent questions
Is the Video EEG painful?
No. The VEEG is completely painless and safe. Small sensors are pasted onto the child's scalp using a water-soluble gel. There are absolutely no electrical currents or shocks sent to the brain.
Will my child need sedation?
We prioritize natural sleep. If a child cannot sleep naturally or is highly anxious, we may administer a safe, pediatrician-approved mild sedative syrup (Triclofos) under direct clinical monitoring.
How long does it take?
VEEG sessions can range from 1 hour up to 4 hours or overnight, depending on what is needed to capture waking, transition, and sleep states.
When will reports be ready?
Reports are interpreted directly by Dr. Swetha Rampally and ready within 2 hours of completing the test, allowing out-of-town families to get reports same-day.
VEEG Pre-Test Preparation Guidelines
- Wash the child's hair thoroughly with shampoo the night before. Do not apply hair oils, gels, or sprays on the test day.
- Slight sleep deprivation may be requested: keep the child awake a few hours later than usual to encourage sleep during recording.
- Feed the child right before the test starts; a full stomach helps them sleep peacefully.
Who is this for?
- First or unexplained seizure
- Episodes that may or may not be seizures
What to bring with you
