Answers to key parent questions
Is the BERA test painful?
No. It is a completely painless hearing pathway test. The child wears comfortable earphones that play click sounds.
Will my child need sedation?
Because the child must remain perfectly still, we recommend natural sleep. A safe pediatric sleep syrup is given if the child is awake or active.
How long does it take?
The test takes about 45 to 60 minutes.
When will reports be ready?
Reports are processed same-day, usually within 2 hours of completion.
BERA Pre-Test Preparation Guidelines
- The test requires the child to be asleep. Keep the child awake during travel to the clinic.
- Bring a milk bottle or feed the child right before entering the diagnostic room.
- Ensure your child's ears are clean and completely free of wax beforehand.
Who is this for?
- Speech delay or no response to sound
