Child Forgetting Things / Memory Problems
Sudden or progressive memory difficulties, forgetting recently learned material, or loss of previously achieved skills requires urgent neurological evaluation.

Skill regression is always a red flag requiring urgent evaluation. Warning Signs to Watch
- •Loss of previously learned skills such as words, toilet training, or academic abilities
- •Cannot remember events that happened the same day
- •Progressively forgetting words or names they previously knew
- •Teacher reporting that the child cannot retain what was taught the previous day

- •Video EEG to rule out subclinical seizures impairing daily learning
- •MRI brain if structural or inflammatory cause suspected
- •Autoimmune encephalitis antibody panel if acute skill loss

Can seizures cause poor memory in children without them knowing?
Yes. Absence seizures can happen many times per day during school without any visible convulsion. The child simply 'misses' fragments of lessons during each brief episode. A child with 50 absence seizures per day loses significant amounts of learning time. A Video EEG can detect these even when the child and parent are unaware.
