Child Staring Into Space / Blank Spells
Brief episodes where a child suddenly stops activity, stares blankly, and is briefly unresponsive may be absence seizures requiring neurological evaluation.

Warning Signs to Watch
- •Sudden freeze mid-activity, blank stare lasting 5–30 seconds
- •Cannot be interrupted by calling name or touching during episode

How is absence epilepsy different from daydreaming?
During daydreaming, a child responds immediately when called by name. During an absence seizure, the child cannot be interrupted — they will not respond to their name, a clap, or a touch. The episode ends on its own within seconds. If you suspect seizures, record a video on your phone during an episode — this is the most useful tool for diagnosis.
