Child Sudden Falls / Drop Attacks
Sudden unexplained falls without tripping, brief loss of muscle tone, or drop attacks in children may indicate atonic seizures or other serious neurological conditions.
“Drop attacks — where a child suddenly and unexpectedly collapses to the ground without tripping — are caused by a brief loss of muscle tone (atonic seizures). The child may fall forward, dropping their face or head to the ground. These are often associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Because there is no warning, drop attacks frequently cause facial and head injuries. A protective helmet and urgent neurology review are needed.”
