Managing spasticity and motor development in Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy (CP) affects muscle tone, posture, and movement. Spasticity - or stiff muscles - is a common feature that limits movement and cause discomfort. Early physical therapy helps stretch tight muscles and encourage normal motor milestones like sitting and crawling. Medical management may include oral muscle relaxants, botulinum toxin injections for localized spasticity, and custom orthotic braces. A multidisciplinary team consisting of a pediatric neurologist, physiotherapist, and occupational therapist is essential to help children with CP achieve their maximum functional potential.
