Routine EEG vs. Video EEG: which does your child need?
A routine EEG takes 20 to 30 minutes and records brain waves using small sensors. It is an excellent screening tool for new seizures. A Video EEG (VEEG) records brain waves simultaneously with video recording. This allows the pediatric neurologist to correlate physical movements or behaviors with electrical patterns in the brain. VEEG is essential to differentiate epileptic seizures from non-epileptic mimics, classify seizure types, and evaluate drug-resistant epilepsy. Your doctor will advise which test is appropriate.
